LinkedIn just signposted an article on the news about coming back to work after your summer vacation and the feelings around that.

It’s an interesting article and intended to be helpful, but I found one phrase that shocked me.  It was this:

“If you did take a holiday, the return to work can feel like a jolt … (but) You know your job … after a couple of hours of insecurity, everything will come back to you

So after a couple of hours, you are back into the automatic routine of work.

That is frightening.

I do remember it though from my corporate days and by the end of the first week at work, the washing is done and put away, as are the cases, and there’s nothing to show for your costly vacation time away.

This is the power of automatic behaviour and patterns – which is how we all live.  We slide right back into the old, well-trodden ways.  Which is why change is so good – it shakes up the fixed patterns.

So as you head into a new working week, what could you change up?

And how can you keep the weekend alive – it’s fun, lightness and family time?
